Cold start to 2025: IMD issues cold wave, dense fog alert across North India

Cold start to 2025: IMD issues cold wave, dense fog alert across North India

PTC News Desk: The residents of Delhi-NCR and its neighbouring regions are going to have a cold start to 2025 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense fog and cold wave that will blanket the region forthcoming and likely to persist throughout New Year. 


As the rainfall recedes, a significant shift in the weather patterns has been noticed prompting the dense fog to loom northern region. According to the weather department, a significant drop in temperature over the next three days is also expected across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan.  A dip in minimum temperature by 3-4 degree Celsius. 

For December 31, IMD said, “Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions likely in a few pockets of Himachal Pradesh; cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan. Ground Frost likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh.”

Isolated areas of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan are expected to experience severe cold wave conditions between December 30 and January 2.

Along with the plunge in temperature, residents are expected to witness dense to very dense fog during late night and early morning hours.
