CJI to consider bar association's request to withdraw Justice Varma's transfer
PTC News Desk: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna is likely to consider bar association's demand seeking calling off Justice Varma's transfer.
"The CJI assured us to consider our demand over Justice Yashwant Varma's transfer," said Allahabad Bar Association chief Anil Tiwari. The presidents of the bar association said that they have been informed by the Chief Justice that even after the transfer to Allahabad High Court, Justice Varma's judicial duties will be remain withdrawn.
The development comes after presidents of six bar association had appealed the Chief Justice of India to withdraw the transfer of Justice Varma. After the CJI's assurance the bar body has said that will reconsider continuing with strike.
Following the recovery of the unaccounted cash pile from his residence during a fire incident, Justice Varma was repatriated from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Police officials were stationed inside the residence of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma following a fire incident at his residence on March 14 that led to the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash.
Acting on instructions from the Inquiry Commission, the police secured the affected area where the fire broke out. Videos were also recorded by the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Devesh Kumar Mahla was seen leaving the residence as investigations continued into the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Monday released an official update to its supplementary cause list, announcing the immediate withdrawal of judicial responsibilities from Justice Yashwant Varma until further notice.
