Silo collapses at Chhattisgarh smelting plant; 25 workers feared trapped, casualties likely

PTC Web Desk: A silo collapsed at a smelting plant in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, with at least 25 workers feared trapped under the rubble. The incident took place in the afternoon at the plant in Saragaon, according to Mungeli Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel. Two persons were reported injured when the news was last filed.

As per initial reports, the silo, a large iron structure used to store bulk materials, collapsed unexpectedly during ongoing operations, trapping several workers on-site. The sudden collapse led to confusion and panic as the massive structure came down, burying workers beneath the debris.

Emergency teams were quickly alerted, and a rescue operation was launched to save those trapped. The authorities pressed into service heavy machinery to clear the wreckage and locate survivors. Two injured workers have already been rescued and admitted to a hospital in Bilaspur. Rescue operations are ongoing as teams work tirelessly to reach those still trapped.

The exact number of workers buried under the debris remains unclear, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
