Chhath Devotees immerse themselves in Yamuna as toxic layer of foam blankets holy river | Watch

PTC News Desk: The Yamuna river in national capital is covered in thick layer of toxic foam. Despite the hazardous health risks it poses, people can be seen taking a dip in the river, while some can be seen washing hair on the last day Chhath Puja festival. A video of the devotees immersing themselves in the river is doing the rounds on social media.


The Chhath festivities started on Tuesday with 'Nahay Khaye’, with devotees offering prayers in the river. Despite High court's warnings and against performing rituals in the wake of triggering health concerns, devotees not only took a dip in the holy water but also brought Ganges water home for rituals.

The festival is widely celebrated Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and other regions signals worship of the sun god and is observed with a rigorous four-day routine. The devotees' dip in the holy river also shows the obliviousness of the concerned authorities as no measures were taken ahead of the festivities in spite of the fact that Chhath festival marks the gathering of several people's presence.
