Chandrayaan-3 update: ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 on course to moon after successful lunar transfer trajectory
PTC Web Desk: After successfully positioning the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into the lunar transfer trajectory, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) tweeted with excitement, "Next destination: the Moon," on Tuesday morning.
The space agency announced that Chandrayaan-3 has completed its orbit around the Earth and is now en route to the Moon.
ISRO stated that a successful perigee-firing was executed at ISTRAC, leading to the spacecraft's injection into the translunar orbit.
Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar mission, is set to arrive in the lunar orbit on August 5. On this date, the spacecraft's liquid engine will be fired again for the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI). Following this, four additional orbit maneuvers are planned to position the spacecraft at a distance of approximately 100 km from the Moon's surface, in its final orbit.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission comprises a Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM), and a Rover. The PM and LM separation is scheduled for August 17. Before the power descent phase for a soft landing on the Moon, a series of deboost maneuvers will be conducted. The expected touchdown of the lander on the Moon's surface is set for August 23 at 5:47 pm.
On July 14, India's third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, took off from the spaceport at Sriharikota propelled by a GSLV rocket.
