Chandigarh: US returnee Panjab University student tests Covid positive; quarantined
Chandigarh coronavirus alert: A student of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, who returned from the United States (US) two days back, has tested Covid positive. He had gone to the US for academic assignment. As per information, he has been quarantined at PU guest house till January 2.
There is panic in India, especially amid an uptick in cases of new coronavirus variants in China and other countries.

As per information, the exercise of contact tracing and home quarantine has started on the instructions of a team from the office of the nodal officer, Chandigarh Administration.
On the other hand, the Chandigarh Administration is also on alert. Director, Health Services, UT, Dr Suman Singh said it was difficult to say at this hour if he had been infected with new strain. It would be detected only through genome sequencing.

According to information, the infected student is a research scholar of Geology Department. He is asymptomatic. The hostel where had been staying has been sanitised.
