Chandigarh reports first case of swine flu; check symptoms and precautions

Chandigarh, July 26: Chandigarh has confirmed its first case of swine flu, according to the Health Department. The patient, who is a doctor at a local hospital, is currently under treatment. Dr Suman Singh, Director of the Health Department, confirmed the case and stated that the patient's condition is stable. The patient is receiving medical care and is being monitored closely by healthcare professionals.

Symptoms of Swine Flu

Swine flu, caused by the H1N1 influenza virus, is a type of bacterial infection. Individuals infected with swine flu may exhibit symptoms including fatigue, fever,  loss of appetite, sore throat and body aches, cough, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea in some cases.

The disease can spread through contact with an infected person. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared swine flu a pandemic in 2010 due to its widespread impact in 2009.

Precautions to Prevent Influenza

To reduce the risk of influenza, including swine flu, it is important to follow these precautions:

Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

Wear a mask in crowded places.

Maintain distance from individuals showing flu-like symptoms.

Use paracetamol to manage fever and avoid self-medication with antibiotics or other drugs without medical advice.

Increase water intake and avoid touching your face frequently.

Refrain from spitting in public areas.

Meanwhile, Dr Suman Singh emphasized the importance of seeking medical advice rather than self-treating symptoms such as fever, headache, and cough, as they can be similar to those of viral fever and flu. To prevent complications, it is essential to consult a doctor if symptoms persist for 3-4 days. Prompt medical evaluation is recommended to ensure proper treatment and management of the condition.
