Chandigarh likely to witness cold wave conditions on New Year's eve
Chandigarh, December 31: The India Meteorological Department predicts that cold wave conditions will likely prevail over Haryana, Chandigarh, and New Delhi on December 31 and January 1.
According to an earlier tweet by the IMD, "A fresh spell of dense fog and cold wave likely to commence over northwest India from 31st December 2022".
According to IMD, at 8.30 am, the visibility was recorded at 0 metres each for Bhatinda, Chandigarh and Bikaner, and 25 metres each for Phalodi, Ludhiana, Bareilly, Varanasi and Cooch Bihar.
Meanwhile, after a brief respite, severe cold weather returned to the national capital on Saturday, with people huddled around bonfires along the roads to keep warm.
"Today, there is a severe cold wave," said a bus driver who was seen sitting near a bonfire at Turkman Gate here in the old city area. "It is very cold today. We have been sitting around this bonfire to keep it warm," said an old man, Noor ud Din.

Another elderly man, Jahangir, expressed concern about a lack of resources, saying, "Today, it is freezing. We have lit a bonfire to beat this severe cold. We are trying to warm our hands and feet or else the shivering due to the severe cold will not stop. We are helpless. All we have is just this bonfire. We do not have any other support".
Moreover, the air quality in the national capital slipped to the "very poor" category on Saturday. With this, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded at 369.
