Centre deploys additional 10,000 troops to violence-hit Manipur, total forces reach 288 companies
Manipur violence: The Central Government has approved the deployment of more than 10,000 additional troops to Manipur in a bid to control the ongoing ethnic violence. This brings the total number of central force companies in the state to 288, according to Manipur's Chief Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh.
Out of the 90 new companies—equivalent to around 10,800 personnel—several units have already reached the state capital, Imphal. The remaining forces are expected to be deployed across the region shortly.
"We are receiving 90 companies of central forces, and many have already arrived in Imphal," Singh said during a press briefing. "These forces are being strategically distributed to safeguard civilians, protect properties, and monitor vulnerable areas," he added.
To enhance coordination and security, new joint control rooms and coordination cells will be established in every district. Existing facilities are also undergoing reviews to improve their functionality. "We aim to cover all areas within a few days and ensure comprehensive protection for the population," Singh assured.
