Cash at Judge's house: SC releases inquiry report; Justice Varma denied allegations, calls them 'preposterous'
PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court has released the photos and videos of burnt cash recovered from Justice Yashwant Varma's residence. The top court has released the inquiry report filed by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay into the controversy involving High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, as per a press release by the Supreme Court.
In his report, the Delhi High Court Chief Justice said that he is of the prima facie opinion that the entire matter warrants a deeper probe.
While vehemently denying the allegations, Justice Varma called them a mere conspiracy and attempt to malign him. Justice Varma stated that no cash was ever placed in that storeroom either by him or any of his family members, and he said he strongly denounced the suggestion that the alleged cash belonged to them.
"What baffles me is the complete absence of any sacks of allegedly burnt currency which were ever recovered or seized. We categorically assert that neither my daughter, PS nor household staff were shown these so-called sacks of burnt currency," said Justice Varma in his response.
"My staff present said that there was no 'removal' of currency which was allegedly found at the site or removed from the premises," he stated.
Delhi Police Commissioner along with Delhi High Cour Chief Justice had shared a video of recovery of burnt cash from Justice Varma's residence.
Notably, a huge pile of cash was recovered from his residence on the night of the incident on March 14. While asserting further Justice Varma said that his daughter and staff had informed him that the authorities did not show any sacks of charred notes or currency being taken away after the blaze was doused.
