Joon was sitting with a woman who police now believe may have been involved in the murderous scheme when the incident happened.
Employees and police records state that the woman entered the restaurant and sat at a table to start the chain of events. Soon after, Joon came to join her. After placing their order at the counter, the woman walked back to the table and brought their food.
A short while later, two men entered the restaurant; one was dressed in a white shirt and the other in a red t-shirt. They sat at a table behind Joon and the woman after placing an order at the counter. Suddenly, the two men turned and started shooting at Joon instead of sitting down.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Vichitra Veer, announced on Wednesday that a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged and an investigation has been launched.
Following criminal Himanshu Bhau's social media claim of responsibility for the attack, detectives are looking into the murder as part of a gang battle and have identified three suspects, including the woman dining with the victim.
Gangster Himanshu Bhau, who is reportedly on the run, claimed to be the author of a social media post around 11 p.m. on Tuesday stating that his gang members were behind the crime and that it was retaliation for their associate's murder. "Today, Himanshu Bhau and my brother Naveen Bali accept responsibility for the murder that happened in Rajouri Garden. Our brother Shakti Dad was murdered, and today is the day that retribution has been exacted against this man.
Joon is thought to be a member of the Ashok Pradhan gang, which has a history of animosity towards Bhau's gang.
