BSF jawan injured as Pakistan troops resort to unprovoked firing in J-K's Akhnoor

PTC News Desk: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured after Pakistani troops engaged in unprovoked firing on Indian posts in the Akhnoor area of Jammu on Wednesday. The move violated a ceasefire agreement along the border.

The BSF retaliated, but officials claimed no injuries on the Pakistani side were immediately known.

“On 11 Sept 2024 at about 02:35 AM, the incident of unprovoked firing in Akhnoor area from across the border happened and which was befittingly responded by the BSF. One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pak firing. Troops are on high alert,” BSF said.

Ceasefire violations have been rare since India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.

Last year, a BSF jawan was killed in firing by Pakistan Rangers in the Ramgarh sector, marking the Indian side's first loss of life in almost three years. The violation of the ceasefire agreement took place just days before the first part of the three-phase assembly elections, which are planned for September 18. The second phase will take place on September 25, followed by the third phase on October 1.
