BookMyShow removes all content of Kunal Kamra, delists as artist amid joke row
PTC News Desk: In a major setback to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, online ticketing platform BookMyShow on Saturday removed all the content related to him and even removed him from the artist list.
The development comes a day after Shiv Sena (Shinde) youth leader Rahool N Kanal wrote to BookMyShow, requesting the company not to provide a platform for Kamra, following his controversial remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
"Such remarks not only hurt the sentiments of public at large but also have the potential to incite public mischief and disrupt social harmony. By providing a platform for his performances, BookMyShow inadvertently lends credibility and reach to an individual whose actions threaten public order, particularly in a vibrant and diverse city like Mumbai, where your company is headquartered," Kanal wrote further in his letter to the online ticketing platform, which was shared on X.
Soon after the online ticketing platform's move, Kanal thanked BookMyShow for removing any content linked to the artist.
Earlier last week, Mumbai police had issued third summon Kunal Kamra in connection with an FIR for defamation and remarks amounting to public mischief. Besides Kamra, the Mumbai police had also issued summons to the audience members who were part of the show to appear before them for interrogation.
