Bomb threat on flight: A Vistara flight (UK 18) travelling from London to Delhi experienced a bomb scare that caused panic among passengers on board, though it later proved to be a false alarm. The incident began when a handwritten note was discovered in the aircraft's lavatory, warning of a bomb on the flight. The discovery occurred approximately 3.5 hours before the flight was scheduled to land at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday.

The message, scribbled on a tissue paper and stuck inside the restroom, led to immediate concerns of a potential threat. Crew members promptly reported the matter to the authorities, and heightened security measures were put in place. The aircraft was carrying around 300 passengers, including crew members. Upon receiving the information, the cabin crew followed emergency protocols, keeping passengers calm while making necessary arrangements for a safe landing.

The Vistara flight landed safely at Delhi airport around 11.20 am and was immediately directed to a secluded area on the tarmac. Security personnel, including bomb squads, police, and other emergency services, surrounded the aircraft. Each passenger was instructed to disembark in an orderly manner, with priority given to business class travellers, followed by premium economy, and lastly economy class passengers.

A comprehensive security sweep of the aircraft was conducted, including a detailed search of passenger baggage and cabin compartments. All cabin luggage was removed from the aircraft and thoroughly scanned by specialised equipment brought to the site. Passengers were asked to identify their luggage after the scan to ensure no unclaimed items remained onboard.

As the security checks progressed, passengers were made to wait at the airport's departure gate number 4. Vistara provided refreshments, including snacks and water, to those waiting. However, anxiety remained high among many passengers who spoke about the fearful experience during the flight.

The security check and questioning process lasted for nearly three hours, with passengers and their belongings being thoroughly inspected. By 2,30 pm, all passengers were still held at the airport as the authorities finalised their investigation.

The authorities also questioned the flight crew, including the pilot and co-pilot, regarding their decision not to divert the flight to a closer airport upon discovering the bomb threat. In response, the crew reportedly explained that landing at an alternate location might have posed a greater risk. They believed there was a possibility that the individual responsible for the note could have attempted to use the diversion as an opportunity for hijacking or other dangerous demands. Thus, they deemed it safer to continue the journey to Delhi, where more comprehensive security measures were available.

After hours of exhaustive searches and questioning, the bomb threat was ultimately declared a hoax, as no suspicious items were found in any of the baggage or the aircraft itself.
