Bomb threat note on Vistara flight from Paris sparks full-scale emergency at Mumbai Airport
PTC News Desk: Today, a handwritten bomb threat message found inside an airsickness bag on a Vistara flight that had left Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport prompted the airport in Mumbai to declare a full emergency.
The aircraft, which was carrying 294 passengers and 12 crew members, made a safe landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 10:19 am after the flight crew reported the danger at 10:08 am.
"We confirm that a security concern has been noted by our staff while onboard Vistara flight UK 024 operating from Paris to Mumbai on June 2, 2024," a Vistara Airlines representative said in a statement confirming the incident.
As per practice, we notified the appropriate authorities right away. The airplane has touched down at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and we are working closely with the security services to complete all necessary inspections,” the spokesperson continued.
The bomb threat aboard the Vistara flight was made just one day after a similar warning was received by an IndiGo flight from Varanasi to New Delhi. Following a thorough investigation, police found the threat to be false.
A female caller told the airport security that her husband was on the IndiGo flight and that he had a bomb in his handbag, according to a Delhi Police official.
The passenger in issue, 42-year-old Meerut resident Vimal Kumar, was questioned. Since his wife is "mentally unfit," Kumar told the police that his wife made the call after seeing news of a bomb threat on an aircraft a few days prior.
According to the police, his allegations are being investigated and new legal action is being taken. The airline announced in a statement that there had been a bomb threat on flight 6E 2232, which was going from Varanasi to Delhi.
"Upon landing in Delhi, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay as per security agency guidelines and the crew followed all standard operating procedures," added the statement. The airline reports that every passenger has safely disembarked, and the aircraft is presently being inspected.
