'PR stunt...wants to restore his image': BJP's first reaction to Arvind Kejriwal's resignation

Arvind Kejriwal's resignation: BJP, reacting to Arvind Kejriwal's announcement to step down from the post of Delhi Chief Minister, said it is a “PR stunt” and that the AAP leader wants to "restore his image."

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari stated that Kejriwal has realised that his reputation among Delhi's citizens does not reflect that of an honest leader.

"This is a PR stunt by Arvind Kejriwal. He has realised that his image among the people of Delhi is that of a corrupt leader; today, the Aam Aadmi Party is known across the country as a corrupt party," Bhandari stated.

"He wants to restore his image with this PR stunt. He clearly wants to follow the Sonia Gandhi model, in which she created Manmohan Singh a dummy Prime Minister and ran the government from behind the scenes. They realised today that the Aam Aadmi Party is losing the Delhi elections, and the people of Delhi cannot vote in their name, therefore they want to make someone else a scapegoat."

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a BJP leader, stated that Kejriwal has no other option due to the Supreme Court's bail restrictions.

"Arvind Kejriwal has said that he will quit in two days and return to power as Chief Minister after the people have spoken... This is not a sacrifice. Supreme Court's decision prevents him from entering the Chief Minister's chair or signing any documents. As a result, you have no choice but to step down in accordance with the Supreme Court judgement. Three months ago, when you asked 'jail or bail', you lost all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and were sentenced to jail," Sirsa said.

He further stated that Kejriwal had asked for two days to convince his party's MLAs to appoint his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, as chief minister.

"Now he has requested a two-day extension because he is persuading all MLAs to make his wife the CM... He has to leave his seat because he is involved in a liquor scam," he added.
