A stampede at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district, killed at least seven people and injured nine others on Monday morning.

Bihar stampede: 7 dead, several injured in stampede at Jehanabad temple

PTC News Desk: A stampede at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district, killed at least seven people and injured nine others on Monday morning.

"At least seven people died and nine were injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district. We are monitoring everything and now the situation is under control," Jehanabad DM Alankrita Pandey said.


The incident took place on the Vanavar hill in Makhdumpur block. The injured were taken to hospitals in Makhdumpur and Jehanabad.

It was the fourth Monday of the sacred Sawan month, and there was a massive crowd inside the temple.

Divakar Kumar Vishwakarma, SHO Jehanabad, stated, "DM and SP visited the site and are taking stock of the situation...Seven people have died. We are meeting and speaking with the families of the deceased and injured...We're trying to identify the individuals that passed away, and then we'll send the bodies for post-mortem."

Further details are awaited.

The incident occurred just weeks after over 120 people were killed in a religious congregation in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The tragedy happened during a gathering dedicated to Baba Narayan Hari, often known as 'Bhole Baba.'
