Bhindranwale photos controversy: Dal Khalsa activists paste photos on Himachal vehicles; LoP Jairam Thakur raises issue in assembly
PTC News Desk: The row over display of flags carrying slain militant preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s pictures on the vehicle of a Punjabi tourist in Himachal has escalated after protest erupted against the Himachal authorities' action.
Dal Khalsa and Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP), on Tuesday pasted the pictures of Bhindrawale’s posters on Himachal buses parked in the local bus stand and on the Chintpurni road. Some private vehicles bearing Himachal number were also subjected to the display.
The controversy erupted after several youths displaying photos of Bhindranwale on their bikes received backlash from locals in Manali. Reportedly they tore down the flags triggering a scuffle and public outrage.
Akal Takht's acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj condemned the incident and urged the Chief Minister to maintain communal harmony. He said, “When the police stop a youth to check the documents of his vehicle, at that time the local elements have no right to use force against the youth and tear the flags”.
Meanwhile Himachal Pradesh LoP Jairam Thakur on Tuesday raised concerns over the reports suggesting recent incidents of row over slain Khalistan supporter Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale's images. In a scathering attack on the Sukhu administration, Thakur asserted that the incident raises alarming concerns over the law and ordr situation in the state.
Himachal CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that he will converse with Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on this matter and also said that such reports of incidents subjecting to violence are highly unfortunate and condemnable.
