PTC News Desk: In May 2024, banks across India will observe closures on a total of 14 days, as per the holiday calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These closures encompass a combination of public holidays, regional observances, and routine closures on second and fourth Saturdays, as well as Sundays.
The RBI's holiday calendar for May 2024 reflects a comprehensive list of bank holidays, accounting for various factors including public holidays recognised nationwide, regional festivals, and the routine closure of banks on weekends. Notably, in the case of state-specific festivals, bank closures will be observed solely in the respective states where the festivals are celebrated.
Each month, the RBI meticulously prepares and notifies the list of bank holidays under three distinct categories: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holidays, and Banks' Closing of Accounts. This ensures clarity and adherence to the designated holidays, facilitating smooth banking operations for customers and financial institutions alike.

May 1 (Wednesday): Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labour Day) - Bank closures in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.
May 5 (Sunday): Weekend - Banks closed nationwide.
May 7 (Tuesday): Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 - Bank closures in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Panaji, Raipur.
May 8 (Wednesday): Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore - Bank closures in Kolkata.
May 10 (Friday): Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya - Bank closures in Bengaluru.
May 12 (Sunday): Weekend - Banks closed nationwide.
May 13 (Monday): Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 - Bank closures in Srinagar.
May 16 (Thursday): State Day - Bank closures in Gangtok.
May 19 (Sunday): Weekend - Banks closed nationwide.
