To combat winter air pollution, the Delhi government has announced a blanket ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers in the national capital. The ban will remain in place until January 1, 2025.

PTC News Desk: To combat winter air pollution, the Delhi government has announced a blanket ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers in the national capital. The ban will remain in place until January 1, 2025.

"In a bid to control the rise in pollution levels in Delhi during the winter season, the Kejriwal government has imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing, storing, sale, and usage of firecrackers. Online sale/delivery of firecrackers also remain prohibited. The prohibitions are to remain in effect till 1st January 2025," Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated.


Gopal Rai announced Thursday that the Environment Department will use drones to track air quality at pollution hotspots as part of a 21-point plan to reduce air pollution during the winter session.

"In a first in Delhi, the Environment Department will use drones for real-time air quality monitoring at pollution hotspots as a part of the 21-point Winter Action Plan to curb air pollution in cold months, announced Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Thursday," the statement read.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a press conference to announce the decisions at the meeting. He stated that all departments have been asked to submit detailed action plans and suggestions for the Winter Action Plan to the Environment Department by September 12.

Gopal Rai stated that the government has increased its preparations to deal with the problem of pollution during the winter season. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, our government has consistently implemented strong measures to minimize air pollution in Delhi, resulting in a 30% drop in pollution over the last nine years.

On September 3, the Delhi Minister also wrote to the presidents of the Congress and BJP Delhi state units, asking for suggestions for incorporation in the Winter Action Plan, which aims to reduce pollution in Delhi.
