Baba Tarsem Singh's murder: In a dramatic turn of events, the assailant responsible for the shooting of the dera kar seva chief at Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar met his demise in a police encounter. The operation was jointly conducted by the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) and Haridwar Police, as confirmed by the state's top police official to ANI news agency on Tuesday.
The fatal shooting of Baba Tarsem Singh occurred on March 28 within the precincts of the shrine, perpetrated by Sarabjit Singh and Amarjit Singh, who arrived on a motorcycle. The dera kar seva chief was targeted while seated, struck by a rifle fired by the pillion rider.
Announcing the demise of Amarjit Singh, Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar informed ANI that efforts are underway to track down his fleeing accomplice. "The Uttarakhand Police considered Baba's murder as a grave challenge, and the STF and local law enforcement agencies remained vigilant in pursuit of both perpetrators. Stringent actions will be taken against criminals engaging in such reprehensible acts within Uttarakhand," asserted the DGP.
Haridwar's Senior Superintendent of Police, Parminder Doval, disclosed that the encounter transpired between Kaliyar Road and Bhagwanpur in Haridwar. He further noted that Amarjit Singh was implicated in over 16 criminal cases.

Five individuals, including the assailants Sarabjit Singh and Amarjit Singh, IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh heading the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh, and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh organization, were named in the FIR related to Baba Tarsem Singh's murder.
According to sources cited by India Today TV, Sarabjit Singh had a criminal history and was previously detained for severing the hand of an individual accused of touching Guru Granth Sahib with unwashed hands. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising personnel from the Special Task Force and local law enforcement, was constituted to delve into the incident.
