Baba Siddique Murder | Shooters tracked NCP leader for over 2 months, received firearms days before killing
Baba Siddique Murder: Mumbai Police suspects that the killing of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was pre-planned.
The crime branch has started an investigation into the case from various angles, including a possible contract killing, business rivalry, or a threat to a slum rehabilitation project.
While two of the alleged culprits have been apprehended, another is on the run and being tracked down, according to police.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), a resident of Haryana, and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), native of Uttar Pradesh, the police added.
The attackers who killed Baba Siddique outside his son's office had made extensive preparations and tracked his movements for more than two months before.
According to media reports, the Baba Siddique killers were paid in advance and got weaponry just days before the crime.
A case has been filed against the three accused under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections, including murder, as well as provisions of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act, they stated.
According to police sources, the three accused in Baba Siddique's murder obtained the weapons by prepaid courier just days before the shooting and were paid Rs 50,000 each in advance.
The accused were reportedly staying in a rented room in Kurla since September 2 for Rs 14,000 per month. They further stated that the three accused met while jailed in a Punjab jail. The Mumbai police asked for assistance from the Uttar Pradesh police in locating the third accused.
The politician, who ended his four-decade ties with the Congress and joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in February of this year, received a death threat just 15 days ago and was placed under 'Y' category security.
