Avoid traffic jams: Check road closures in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram on Republic Day
PTC Web Desk: As India prepares to celebrate its 75th Republic Day on January 26, the Delhi Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory for Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram regions to ensure smooth traffic management and avoid congestion during the grand Republic Day Parade. With the parade being one of the most significant national events, the advisory focuses on redirecting traffic, halting certain vehicle movements, and offering alternative routes to manage the flow of vehicles, especially around the areas surrounding Kartavya Path, India Gate, and other iconic locations in Delhi.
Restrictions and diversions in Delhi
Kartavya Path and surrounding areas: Traffic restrictions will begin on the eve of Republic Day, January 25, starting at 5 pm. Vehicles will be prohibited from entering Kartavya Path, extending from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, until the parade concludes on January 26. This restriction aims to create a secure environment for the Republic Day parade rehearsals, dignitaries’ arrival, and other essential activities surrounding the event.
Cross-traffic bans on key roads: As per the advisory, no cross-traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path, including Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road, from 10 pm on January 25. The ban will remain in effect until the official celebrations conclude on the morning of January 26. The aim is to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted flow of traffic during the Republic Day parade.
C-Hexagon-India Gate Area: The C-Hexagon-India Gate region will be closed to traffic from 9.15 am on January 26 until the parade passes Tilak Marg. This closure is expected to prevent crowd congestion and ensure the safety of attendees and dignitaries.
Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg: From 10.30 am on January 26, vehicles travelling on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg will be banned in both directions. However, cross-traffic will be allowed as long as it does not interfere with the ongoing parade. These roads are crucial for parade movement and, therefore, will be closely monitored and regulated by traffic authorities.
Additional restrictions around key locations
The areas around Mother Teresa Crescent, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Ashoka Road up to the Patel Chowk roundabout, Sansad Marg, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Ferozshah Road, Mandi House, Bhagwan Dass Road, and Mathura Road will see a ban on auto-rickshaws and taxis starting at 7 am on January 26. This measure aims to control traffic and maintain public safety during the Republic Day celebrations.
Diversions and alternative routes for commuters
The Delhi Traffic Police have shared a set of diversion routes to help commuters avoid the restricted zones. Here are some key alternate routes:
Shivaji Stadium buses: Buses coming from Shivaji Stadium will follow the route through National Highway-24, Ring Road, and terminate at Bhairon Road.
Buses from National Highway-24: These buses will be diverted to Road No. 56 and will end their journey at ISBT Anand Vihar.
Buses from Ghaziabad: They will be diverted at Mohan Nagar and proceed towards Bhopra Chungi for Wazirabad Bridge.
For general commuters, the following alternative routes are suggested:
North-South corridor: The Ring Road via Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, I.P. Flyover, and Rajghat.
East-West Corridor: Multiple options include Ring Road-Bhairon Road-Mathura Road-Subramaniam Bharti Marg-Rajesh Pilot Marg-Prithvi Raj Road-Safdarjung Road-Kamal Ataturk Marg-Panchsheel Marg-Simon Boliver Marg-Upper Ridge Road/Vande Matram Marg.
Impact on Delhi Metro and public transport
Delhi Metro services will continue uninterrupted, but commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance as several roads will be closed for regular traffic. The Delhi Traffic Police have assured that metro stations will remain operational, ensuring smooth access to public transportation.
The city buses, however, will not be operational at certain locations, including Park Street/Udyan Marg, Aram Bagh Road (Paharganj), Kamla Market roundabout, Delhi Secretariat, Pragati Maidan, Hanuman Mandir, Mori Gate, ISBT-Kashmiri Gate, ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan, and Tis Hazari Court.
Traffic advisory for Noida and Gurugram
Noida traffic restrictions: In Noida, the authorities have implemented measures to manage heavy vehicle movement during the Republic Day celebrations. The vehicles entering Delhi through the Chilla border will have to follow a diverted route, passing through the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, which will then link them to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Trucks coming from the DND border will take a U-turn at the toll plaza and follow the same route.
Gurugram Traffic restrictions: Traffic police in Gurugram have imposed restrictions on medium and heavy goods vehicles from 5 pm on January 25 until 1.30 pm on January 26. These vehicles will be diverted at various checkpoints, including Pachgaon on the KMP Expressway and Hero Honda Chowk. This move aims to reduce congestion and avoid delays due to heavy vehicle traffic.
The authorities have urged commuters to strictly follow the guidelines and advisories to avoid traffic disruptions and delays.
