Atal Bihari Vajpayee birth anniversary: Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s enduring legacy lies in his role as a statesman, his leadership during crucial moments in India's history, and his contributions to the country's economic and infrastructural development. 

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a skilled administrator, politician and popular public leader, as well as a great orator, who was respected by people from all sections of society.

The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee falls on December 25. He was one of the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Born in Gwalior in 1924, Vajpayee was the face of the BJP for decades and was the first non-Congress prime minister to have served a full term in office.

Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of India from May 16, 1996, to June 1, 1996, and again from 19 March 1998 to 22 May 2004. He passed away at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on August 16 in 2018.

Apart from politics, Vajpayee was a poet and an orator. His eloquent speeches and poems showcased his literary prowess. His poem "Geet Naya Gata Hoon" became particularly popular and reflected his optimistic vision for India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bigwigs led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial in New Delhi on Monday to offer floral tributes on the 99th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar were also present at the memorial. Leaders like Former President Ram Nath Kovind, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and others paid their respects by offering floral tributes on the occasion. 

Paying tribute to former Prime Minister, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the 'Ajat Shatru' of politics. He possessed remarkable abilities to work in both favourable and challenging situations. 

Under the leadership of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India created its new identity in the world and moved forward strongly in the 21st century. He will always be remembered for his far-reaching thinking, writings, the Pokhran nuclear test and India's victory in the Kargil war.
