Actor and MP Arun Govil distributes Ramayana in jail; Meerut murder accused among inmates
PTC Web Desk: BJP MP and actor Arun Govil, renowned for portraying Lord Ram in the iconic television series 'Ramayan,' recently visited Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail as part of his ‘Ghar Ghar Ramayan’ campaign. During his visit, he distributed 1,500 copies of the Ramayana among inmates, who welcomed him with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Among the prisoners present were Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, accused in the brutal murder of Saurabh Rajput.
The duo, currently in judicial custody, allegedly drugged, stabbed, and dismembered Saurabh before concealing his body in a cement-filled drum. To mislead his family, they sent messages from his phone while vacationing in Himachal Pradesh. The crime came to light on March 18, leading to their arrest the next day.
The jail authorities revealed that Muskan and Sahil have been struggling with severe drug withdrawal symptoms, experiencing restlessness, insomnia, and loss of appetite since their incarceration.
Although Govil did not interact with the inmates personally, he observed that Muskan and Sahil appeared emotional upon seeing him. "The inmates showed deep reverence for the Ramayana. If even a fraction of its teachings are implemented, society can witness a positive transformation," he said.
Govil’s initiative, launched 45 days ago in Hapur, aims to distribute 11 lakh copies of the Ramayana across India. So far, over 11,000 copies have been shared in the region as part of his efforts to promote the values of the epic.
