Arrest warrant issued against TV journalist Chitra Tripathi, court denies anticipatory bail
PTC News Desk: An arrest warrant has been issued against television journalist Chitra Tripathi in connection with 2013 POCSO Act. The court had issued a non-bailable warrant for Tripathi's arrest following her failure to appear before it. The court while issuing warrant said that the television journalist has been taking court proceedings way too lightly.
A warrant was also issued against Syed Suhail, the news anchor of another TV channel.
A Gurugram court earlier this week denied anticipatory bail to news anchor while observing that the reason cited in the anticipatory bail were 'unjustified'.
Eight other media professionals were also booked for allegedly telecasting content related to 10 year old girl in obscene and vulgar manner which was linked with sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu.
Both Tripathi and Suhail had submitted plea seeking exemption from physical appearance in court citing political coverage in wake of the elections. While submitting her bail application, Tripathi reiterated the reasons for her absence.
The case was registered under the following sections:
120B (criminal conspiracy)
469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation)
471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code
67B (publishing or transmitting of material depicting children in sexually explicit act, etc. in electronic form)
66(2) (computer related offences) of the Information Technology Act
section 23 of the POCSO Act under which the disclosure of the identity of the child is a punishable offence.
