J-K: Five jawans killed as terrorists attack Army truck; death toll likely to rise

Jammu and Kashmir, April 20: At least five soldiers were killed after terrorists attacked an Army vehicle on Thursday at around 3 pm in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement by the Army Headquarters, Northern Command, the Army vehicle was fired upon by unidentified terrorists.


During the attack, five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit who were deployed for counter-terrorism operations in the area lost their lives. Meanwhile, one jawan was seriously injured in the incident and was evacuated immediately to the Army Hospital at Rajouri.

While initial reports stated that the truck caught fire due to a lightning strike, it was later found that the fire was most likely caused by terrorists using grenades.

The incident occurred in the afternoon in the Bhatadhurian area of Poonch's Mendhar Sub Division. In the fire, the vehicle was completely destroyed. According to witnesses, the vehicle's front and back were engulfed in flames.
