Antilia bomb scare case: Ex-cop Pradeep Sharma gets interim bail

New Delhi, June 5: Supreme Court has granted three weeks interim bail to former police officer Pradeep Sharma to meet his ailing wife. The ex-cop was arrested in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case and the killing of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

A vacation bench led by Justice Aniruddha Bose scheduled the case for hearing on June 26 of this year and directed Sharma to provide a medical report detailing the state of his wife's treatment. Sharma was arrested in the case in June 2021 and sought interim bail on humanitarian grounds while in judicial custody. Sharma stated that his wife's condition was deteriorating with each passing day due to major complications following surgery.

Sharma has requested interim bail for the limited purpose of taking care of his wife, his counsel said. On May 18, the top court issued notice on Sharma's plea challenging an order of the Bombay High Court which had refused to grant him bail.

An explosives-laden SUV was discovered near Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani's residence 'Antilia' in south Mumbai on February 25, 2021. On March 5, last year, businessman Hiran, who was in possession of the SUV, was discovered dead in a creek in Thane.

Sharma, who was a member of the Mumbai police's encounter team that killed over 300 criminals in several encounters, along with officers Daya Nayak, Vijay Salaskar, and Ravindranath Angre, has been accused of assisting his former colleague Waze in eliminating Mansukh Hiran.
