Another shocking murder in UP: Woman, lover and contract killer held for husband’s murder just weeks after Meerut shocker

PTC Web Desk: Just days after the horrifying Meerut murder case, where a woman and her lover allegedly killed her merchant navy officer husband and sealed his dismembered body in a cemented tub, another brutal crime has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district. In a chillingly similar incident, a newlywed woman allegedly conspired with her boyfriend and hired a contract killer to murder her husband merely two weeks after their wedding.

According to the police, Pragati Yadav, who was in a four-year relationship with Anurag Yadav, was unwillingly married to Dilip Yadav, 22, on March 5, 2025, following family pressure. Unhappy with the marriage and determined to be with her lover, Pragati allegedly hatched a conspiracy with Anurag to eliminate Dilip.

It is learnt Pragati misled Anurag, claiming Dilip was wealthy, and convinced him that after the murder, they could lead a prosperous life together. She reportedly provided Anurag with Rs 1 lakh to arrange the killing, after which he hired a contract killer, identified as Ramji Nagar, for Rs 2 lakh to execute the crime.

On March 19, Dilip was returning from Kannauj district when he stopped at a roadside hotel near Patna Canal. Two men on a motorcycle approached him, pretending they needed help with a stuck vehicle. As he attempted to assist them, they lured him onto their bike.

Moments later, Dilip was brutally assaulted and shot, and his body was abandoned in a wheat field. Locals found him in a critical state and alerted the police. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries after three days of treatment.

The police unraveled the murder plot after analysing CCTV footage, which captured the suspects taking Dilip away on a motorcycle. This led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Ramji Nagar. Upon interrogation, both Ramji and Anurag confessed to their involvement, implicating Pragati as the mastermind behind the crime.

The police recovered country-made pistols and live cartridges from the accused. Pragati was later arrested, and all three were produced in a local court before being sent to jail.
