Andhra Pradesh: 6 killed after stampede breaks out at Tirupati Temple

PTC News Desk: At least six people were killed in a stampede that broke out at the Triupati temple in Andhra Pradesh.


According to officials, the incident occurred near Vishnu Niwasam at the Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara ticketing counter during the distribution of 'darshan' tokens. 

In response to the incident, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep shock over the death of devotees. As per the statement, CM Naidu said that he was deeply disturbed by the loss of four lives in the incident that took place when devotees had gathered in large numbers for tokens.

The CM spoke to officials over the phone about the treatment being provided to the injured in the incident, the CMO said.

Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board, BR Naidu, is currently holding an emergency meeting. The Chief Minister will visit Tirupati today to meet the injured. He will also review the management and security of TTD token counters, where the incident took place.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives at the Tirupati stampede accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

"Pained by the stampede in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. The AP Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM@narendramodi," the PMO post read.
