Amit Shah chairs high-level security meet post Poonch attack in J&K

New Delhi, January 02: Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a strategic security review session regarding Jammu and Kashmir following a recent terror assault in the Poonch district that claimed the lives of four soldiers.

The comprehensive gathering, held on Tuesday, aimed to bolster security measures through enhanced coordination among the police, Army, and CRPF. Discussions centered on augmenting local intelligence for improved situational awareness, as per sources close to India Today TV.


Key officials including Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, RAW Chief, Director General of the National Investigation Agency, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police RR Swain, and various senior authorities were present at the meet.

The recent surge in terror incidents within the region has sparked deep concern. Notably, attacks in Kokernag and the Poonch-Rajouri sector have raised alarms among security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Poonch incident on December 22, 2023, witnessed a devastating ambush on two Army vehicles, resulting in the loss of four soldiers' lives and injuries to two others. Similarly, in September 2023, an intense encounter in Kokernag led to the fatalities of an Army Colonel, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Over the past two years, eight terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of at least 34 security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the urgency and significance of the security deliberations.
