Amarnath Yatra: Pilgrims jump off moving bus after brakes fail, 10 injured

Amarnath Yatra: At least 14 people were injured after they jumped off a bus, carrying pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra, lost control on National Highway 44 in Ramban district on Tuesday. 

According to reports, the brakes on the bus travelling from Amarnath to Hoshiarpur failed. The pilgrims were from Punjab.


In a video that went viral, many pilgrims can be seen jumping out of the moving bus. However, security forces responded quickly, preventing the bus from plunging into the gorge. According to officials, no deaths were reported in the incident.

According to officials, the bus was carrying 40 pilgrims returning to Hoshiarpur, Punjab. They added that the driver was unable to stop the vehicle when it reached Nachlana near Banihal due to brake failure.

The incident left ten people injured, including six men, three women, and one child.

When the Army troops and police personnel noticed the pilgrims jumping out of the moving vehicle, they acted quickly and managed to stop the bus from plunging into the stream by placing stones beneath the vehicle's tyres, according to unnamed officials.

According to officials, the army's Quick Reaction Teams arrived on the scene with an ambulance and provided medical assistance and first aid to all of the injured.

The shocking footage from the incident showed people jumping out of the bus as security forces ran behind it, attempting to keep it from falling into the gorge.
