PTC News Desk: A local court on Tuesday cleared Gauhar Chishti, the Khadim of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, who was detained for making inflammatory remarks about suspended BJP politician Nupur Sharma.

Six other defendants in the same case were also cleared by the court. A video featuring Gauhar Chishti and other individuals yelling abusive epithets at Nupur Sharma outside the Ajmer dargah's main entrance went viral in June 2022.

In the footage, Chishti could be seen yelling the "sar tan se juda" slogan just before a Muslim community demonstration against Nupur Sharma

Nupur Sharma found herself at the center of controversy when, in a television debate, she made disparaging statements about Prophet Muhammad. The BJP suspended Sharma after he claimed to have received many death threats.

Gauhar Chishti was reported missing after a case was filed against him. On July 14, 2022, he was taken into custody in Hyderabad.

Additionally, because of a contentious social media post, the authorities were looking into Chishti's possible involvement in the murder of a tailor in Udaipur by two cleaver-wielding men. But the police discovered no connection between Chishti and the murderers.
