Woman arrested with Rs 14 crore heroin hidden in handbag and dresses
Hyderabad, July 3: Customs officials at Hyderabad airport arrested a woman passenger from the Republic of Burundi after seizing over two kilograms of heroin worth Rs 14.2 crore in the international market. The woman, aged around 43, had arrived from Nairobi, Kenya on July 2. The arrest was made based on passenger profiling conducted by Hyderabad Customs officers.
During the examination of the passenger's luggage, Customs officials noticed that eight traditional African dresses, one handbag, and three soaps seemed unusually heavy. Upon further inspection, they discovered that hidden within the walls and layers of the dresses, handbag, and soaps were black/clear plastic packets containing brownish-white powder. Testing confirmed the powder to be heroin.

A total of 2,027 grams of heroin, with an approximate international market value of Rs 14.2 crore, was seized from the concealed packets. The woman was taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and has been remanded in judicial custody by a city court.
The Customs officials continue to investigate the matter further to uncover any potential links or networks associated with the drug trafficking.
