Airline passenger running late makes hoax bomb call to delay Bihar-Delhi flight
PTC News Desk: An airline passenger has been arrested for making a hoax bomb call to delay his Dharbhanga-Delhi flight because he was running late, police said on Saturday.
According to reports, Jay Krishna Kumar Mehta, a native of Supaul in Bihar, made the call after the SpiceJet flight had already left for Delhi.
When it landed at IGI airport here, the passengers were deplaned and the plane was taken to an isolated bay for a thorough search, which revealed no bombs, according to an official.
The case against him was filed in Gurugram's Udyog Vihar police station because he called the airline's call centre there. The Delhi Police had also filed a separate case because the IGI airport falls under their jurisdiction.
After being arrested, he was turned over to the Gurugram Police and charged with criminal intimidation under sections 506 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code, according to police. The call was made to SpiceJet's call centre in Gurugram, and the caller identified himself as Kishore, according to the official.

During the call, he said that he overheard two men discussing a bomb on SpiceJet flight SG-8496 from Darbhanga to Delhi on January 24, according to the official.
The official went on to say that "after the call, the Delhi airport was put on high alert as the flight had already departed from Darbhanga".
Following a thorough search of the aircraft, the official revealed that the bomb threat call was a hoax.
"Mehta was apprehended in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, using technical surveillance," the official said, adding that he was later arrested by the Gurugram Police.
During interrogation, Mehta stated that he had graduated from Magadh University in Bihar and was currently employed by a BPO company, according to police.
According to the official, he called to delay the flight because he was late at the departure counter at Darbhanga airport.
