Air Pollution: Top 10 cities with the ‘poor’ air quality index, check list and AQI scale

10 cities with ‘poor’ AQI: The Air Quality Index is a tool for effective communication of air quality status to people in terms that are easy to understand. There are six AQI categories, namely Good Satisfactory, Moderately Polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe. Each of these categories is decided based on the ambient concentration values of air pollutants and their likely health impacts (known as health breakpoints)

According to the reports, the air quality in the Delhi-NCR region recorded to be in 'Very Poor' category. Meanwhile, air quality in Mumbai on Monday morning was recorded in the 'moderate' category with an air quality index of 127. 


Several visuals from different locations across Delhi-NCR and Mumbai showed a thick layer of smog surrounding parts of the city as the air quality stood in 'Very Poor' category.

Meanwhile, acccording to the SAFAR, the air quality in Kartavya Path at India Gate was recorded at 266 on, Noida recorded an AQI of 290 (poor) and Gurugram 152 (moderate). Anand Vihar breached the very poor category in New Delhi with an AQI of 345, IT0 with an AQI of 309, New Moti Bagh with an AQI of 360, Dwarka Sector-8 recorded an AQI of 313.

Ghaziabad-  246 (poor) 


Gurugram - 255 (poor) 

Muzaffarnagar- 299 (poor)

Bahadurgarh- 284 (poor)

Manesar - 280 (poor)

Kaithal - 269 (poor)

Ballabgarh -  264 (poor)

Keeping in view the safety and security of residents of Delhi-NCR, Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday called an urgent meeting to review the implementation of pollution mitigation measures as a layer of smoke covered Delhi this morning amid rapidly deteriorating air quality.

Check AQI scale 

0 and 50 are considered "good”, 

51 and 100 are "satisfactory", 

101 and 200 are "moderate", 

201 and 300 are "poor", 

301 and 400 are "very poor", 

401 and 450 are "severe"  

450 considered as "severe "
