Air India's Mumbai-San Francisco direct flight starts; to be operated thrice a week
New Delhi, December 15: Planning to fly to San Francisco without any halt, then your wait finally ends here. In a much needed relief for fliers, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday inaugurated direct flight of Air India between Mumbai and San Francisco, which will be run thrice a week.
At present, Air India has direct services from Mumbai to New Jersy's Newark. Air India now mulls connecting Mumbai with New York in 2023.

The inauguration of Ai India's Mumbai-San Francisco direct flight was done virtually. Ministers and officials joined the event from Delhi and Mumbai.
After inaugurating the flight, Scindia said, “We need to push further, stronger, faster...”
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Air India, Campbell Wilson said described the direct flight service from Mumbai to San Francisco as a significant step and milestone. He gave an assurance that Air India would be starting non-stop flights from Mumbai to New York, Paris and Frankfurt in early 2023.
As per Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, airport expansion work was underway in the state and they were mulling developing helipads in every talukas to ramp up air connectivity.
He claimed that as many as 1,50,988 fliers transited through Mumbai airport in 24 hours on December 10.
