AAP to be named as accused in Delhi excise policy case: ED informs High Court

PTC Web Desk: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday informed the Delhi High Court the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would be named as an accused in the Delhi excise policy case.

During the hearing of bail petitions by AAP leader Manish Sisodia, the ED informed the court that a supplementary chargesheet would be filed in the case soon.

In opposition to the former Deputy Chief Minister's bail plea in the High Court, the Enforcement Directorate said the accused was actively attempting to prolong the trial in the Delhi excise policy case, wherein the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also arrested by the agency. With seven chargesheets filed and 18 persons arrested thus far, including Arvind Kejriwal on March 21, the ED claimed that concerted efforts were made to delay justice.

The Delhi excise policy case revolves around alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was subsequently annulled. The agency alleges that Rs 45 crore in "kickbacks," out of a total Rs 100 crore "bribe" from the 'South Group,' were utilised by the AAP for the Goa Assembly election campaign in 2022, branding Arvind Kejriwal as the central figure in the scandal.
