AAP MLA's sexist remarks against Hema Malini stirs row, BJP demands legislator's suspension

PTC News Desk: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan landed in controversy following his sexist remarks against BJP MP Hema Malini. During a live Facebook session, he was heard saying he will "make Uttam Nagar’s roads as smooth as Hema Malini's cheeks."

Soon after the remarks BJP hit back and criticised his remarks saying it disrespects women and insults the local community. The saffron party has also demanded stricter action suspension of the legislator.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that AAP MLA has not only shown a sense of disrespect for women but also for the residents by assuring them that the roads will be fixed by '35th of the month'

The sexist remarks have sparked outrage with AAP’s own MLA Swati Maliwal and former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma condemning Naresh Balyan's statement and calling it 'misogynistic' behaviour.

Swati Maliwal said, “Delhi's Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan says that ‘we will make the roads like Hema Malini's cheeks’! No amount of condemnation of this anti-women statement is enough. This man has been sleeping for the entire ten years due to which the roads of Uttam Nagar are in a dilapidated condition! Such a cheap thinking that considers women as objects has no place in the society. Arvind Kejriwal ji is appealed to take immediate action against this person with anti-women thinking”.

Former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma also voiced her criticism and said, "It is very unfortunate that leaders, especially those from the INDI bloc, are giving misogynistic and sexist remarks in different parts of the country.”
