Locals in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, encountered an unexpected visitor on Sunday when an 8-foot-long crocodile emerged from a river and wandered onto a rain-soaked road.

A video doing rounds on the Internet shows the reptile ambling along the road in the  rain-soaked streets in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri, leaving residents both astonished and concerned.

An official stated that the crocodile likely came out of the river due to the heavy rains, which may have altered its usual habitat and pathways.

Local authorities were alerted to the situation and took necessary measures to ensure the safety of both the crocodile and the residents.

The Shiva River, which runs through the city, is home to several crocodiles, and locals suspect that the heavy rainfall prompted one to venture out of the water. In the video, a few other vehicles are also seen navigating the road near the crocodile.

This incident mirrors a similar occurrence from last year in Vadodara, where residents spotted a 12-foot crocodile on a road near the Vishwamitri River during the monsoon season.

June in Mumbai usually experiences high temperatures between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius. The month is marked by frequent rainfall, averaging 15 to 22 rainy days, in line with the city's tropical monsoon climate. This period of heavy rain is anticipated to persist, offering both relief and challenges to Mumbai's residents.
