Hathras stampede : 6 arrested for stampede at religious event in Hathras ; hunt on for Bhole Baba

Hathras stampede : In the major breakthrough, Six people including four men and two women have been arrested in the incident in a tragic stampede at a religious gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district  on Tuesday,  which claimed the lives of at least 121 people including 106 women and seven children and injured many more. 

The incident occurred following the conclusion of a Satsang led by Narayan Sakaar Hari, also known as Sakaar Vishwa Hari or 'Bhole Baba'.

Aligarh IG Shalabh Mathur says, "...Six people including four men and two women have been arrested in the incident. They all are members of the organising committee and worked as 'Sevadars'."

Aligarh IG Shalabh Mathur says, "...When the stampede occurred the six servitors who are now arrested had run away from the site. Rs 1 lakh reward is being announced on the arrest of the main accused Prakash Madhukar. Soon, a non-bailable warrant will be issued against him. We will also investigate if this incident occurred due to a conspiracy."

IG Shalabh Mathur stated in a press conference on Thursday that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the accused under sections 105, 110, 126 (2), 223, and 238 of the Indian Penal Code.

"We are inquiring about 'Bhole Baba's' criminal history. Permission for the event was not taken in his name, " Aligarh IG  added. 

Multiple theories emerged about the cause of the stampede at the religious event. Meanwhile, Narayan Saakar Hari, also known as 'Bhole Baba', the preacher during whose satsang the tragedy took place, is still at large.

Who is Bhole Baba?

• Formerly known as Saurabh Kumar, the self-styled godman, had previously served in the intelligence department of Uttar Pradesh Police.
• Bhole Baba, formerly Saurabh Kumar, left the UP Police after 17 years of service to pursue a spiritual journey as a preacher. He is frequently seen giving lessons in a white suit and tie.
  
• He organises satsangs with his wife and is also known as 'Sakar Vishwa Hari Baba of Patiali'. Hundreds of people regularly attend his events.
