5-yr-old boy dies during family's attempt to cure his blood cancer through Ganga immersion
PTC Web Desk: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where a five-year-old terminally-ill boy lost his life in a tragic attempt to seek a miracle cure. Suffering from blood cancer, the child's parents, driven by superstition and desperate hope, believed that the sacred Ganga held the power to heal their ailing son. The family, residing in Delhi, embarked on a journey to Haridwar in pursuit of this belief, leaving their home around 9 am.
The gravity of the situation became apparent to a cab driver, who ferried the family, as he noted the visibly unwell condition of the boy. According to reports, doctors in Delhi had given up on the child's treatment, adding to the family's desperation. Upon reaching the banks of the Ganga, a disturbing video captured the parents and an aunt, believed to be the boy's relative, engaging in a ritualistic act. Chanting prayers, they submerged the frail child in the freezing Ganga river, convinced that it held the key to his recovery from blood cancer.
Bystanders, alarmed by the prolonged submersion, intervened and urged the family to stop. The situation escalated, leading to a forceful extraction of the boy from the water. A subsequent video depicted the aunt responding aggressively, defending their actions and even attempting to attack those who intervened. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child was declared dead by doctors.
Haridwar city police chief Swantantra Kumar said Delhi hospital had conveyed the bleak prognosis that their child could not be saved. The family firmly believed in the healing properties of the Ganga, hoping for a miracle that, tragically, never materialised. The police have taken the parents and the aunt into custody for questioning.
