4.9 magnitude earthquake jolts Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district
Doda/Jammu, July 10: Doda, a district in Jammu and Kashmir, experienced an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale in the early hours of Monday, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake struck at 5:38 am and had its epicenter located 10 km below the Earth's surface in the Doda region. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of any damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
The exact geographical coordinates of the epicenter were recorded as latitude 33.15 degrees north and longitude 75.68 degrees east, as stated by the NCS. This information helps geologists and seismologists pinpoint the precise location of the earthquake and its effects.
Officials have noted that Doda has experienced a series of seismic activities over the past month. Since June, there have been 12 tremors of varying intensity that have rattled the region. The most significant event in this sequence occurred on June 13, when a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the district. This particular earthquake resulted in cracks appearing in numerous buildings, including residential houses.
