37 children among 43 drown to death during 'Jivitputrika' festival in separate incidents in Bihar

37 children among 43 drown to death during 'Jivitputrika' festival in separate incidents in Bihar

PTC News Desk: During the 'Jivitputrika' festival in Bihar, at least 43 people died including 37 children while three others went missing while taking holy dips in rivers and ponds, according to the state government.

The incidents occurred in 15 districts across the state during the festival on Wednesday. During the 'Jivitputrika' festival, women fast for their children's health and take holy dips.


A total of 43 bodies have been recovered so far. The Disaster Management Department (DMD) stated that further searches are underway.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar promised compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the victims.

The process of giving compensation has begun, and the families of eight of those who died have already received it, according to the statement.

"Drowning incidents were reported in East and West Champaran, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, and Arwal districts."
