PTC News Desk: At least three more bridges or causeways collapsed in Bihar on Wednesday, making it the 9th such incident in the rain-affected state in the last 15 days.

No casualties were reported after the three structures, built by local authorities 30 to 80 years ago, collapsed during the day in Saran and Siwan districts, according to officials.

Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader, claimed that four bridges collapsed in a single day while the Chief Minister and his deputies remained silent.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed the Road Construction Department (RCD) and Rural Works Department (RWD) to undertake an immediate survey of all old bridges in the state and identify those that need to be fixed right away.

"Certain portions of the bridges/causeways that caved in Siwan and Saran on Wednesday are very old," Chaitanya Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, WRD, stated.

"These structures do not appear to have been built using the required parameters. It also appears that the foundation was not deep enough, which could explain why these structures were damaged during floods," he said.

First, at around 5 a.m., a portion of a small bridge over the Gandaki River in Siwan district's Deoria area collapsed. Later, another small bridge in the district's Teghra block was apparently broken in the same manner. District Magistrate Aman Samir said that two more small bridges in Saran had collapsed.
