PTC News Desk: At least 21 police officers were injured after a mob threw stones at them in Amravati, Maharashtra, on Friday night. The incident occurred following a row over Hindu seer Yati Narsinghanand Maharaj's "objectionable" remarks about Prophet Mohammad. The enraged crowd demanded that the police file a case against the seer.

According to authorities, the mob's stone-pelting outside the Nagpuri Gate police station damaged at least ten police vans.

"A large crowd, including members of various organisations, gathered at Nagpuri Gate police station around 8.15 pm to seek the registration of a case against Yati Narsinghanand Maharaj of Ghaziabad. The in-charge of the police station informed the mob that one FIR had already been filed against the seer, after which they returned," Amravati Police Commissioner Navin Chandra Reddy told the reporters.

However, shortly after the video of the Hindu seer's comments became viral on social media, a big crowd returned to the police station.

"When police officers tried to persuade the crowd, the mob began throwing stones at them...Some police personnel and officers were injured in the attack, and police are taking action against the mob," Reddy said.

Meanwhile, the police issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), prohibiting any gathering of five or more individuals in the Nagpuri Gate area.
