PTC News Desk: Two soldiers were martyred in action during an aggressive gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar, a senior army officer said. In a separate incident in Kathua, forces from the Rising Star Corps killed two terrorists.

The gunfight in Kishtwar's Chatroo started as security personnel conducted an operation in the region. The encounter is still ongoing, according to a White Knight Corps post on X.

According to a statement from the army, a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police was initiated in Chatroo near Kishtwar based on intelligence. At 1530 hours, contact was established with terrorists. The army reported that two soldiers were killed in the ensuing firefight. The operation is ongoing.

According to sources, the same terrorists involved in the Kishtwar incident were also involved in a July clash in Doda, where four soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action.

The encounters took place days before voting in eight assembly segments spread across Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts in the Chenab valley region, as well as 16 seats in the south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam on September 18.
