2 jawans injured, 5 Maoists killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar
PTC News Desk: Five Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Abujhmad, Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, on Saturday morning. Two jawans were also injured during the operation, but are said to be safe.
The joint security operation began on Saturday morning, following reports of Maoist activity in north Abujhmad, a wide area adjoining the Narayanpur and Kanker districts.
The exchange of fire between security personnel and Maoists began at 8 a.m. and lasted several hours, according to the police, who also discovered five bodies and took firearms from them.
The District Reserve Guards (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Border Security Force (BSF) all collaborated to carry out the operation.
Abujhmad is a vast, unsurveyed area larger than the state of Goa. It is primarily located in the Narayanpur district, with small areas scattered over Bijapur, Dantewada, and Kanker districts in Maharashtra. Until last year, the area was regarded as a refuge for Maoists due to its deep jungle and lack of government authorities.
