192 IndiGo flights cancelled; refunds and rebooking temporarily unavailable due to Microsoft outage

PTC News Desk: IndiGo Airlines announced on Friday that it was momentarily unable to rebook a ticket or request a refund, as hundreds of aircraft worldwide ground to a stop as a result of a global computer failure. The budget carrier said that it had no control over the "cascading effect of the worldwide travel system outage," which was the reason for the flight cancellations.

"We are unable to control the global travel system breakdown, which is causing flights to be canceled. IndiGo announced on X that it is currently unable to make a reservation change or request a refund. The airline has released a list indicating that 192 of IndiGo's flights had been canceled thus far.

IndiGo reported in another update that delays were occurring at airports due to a "network-wide issue with Microsoft Azure."

There can be longer lines and slower check-ins. Microsoft and our digital team are collaborating to find a quick solution for this. Please contact our on-site team if you need assistance," it stated.

Passengers at Delhi International Airport complained on social media about lengthy lines at the baggage claim and check-in kiosks, as well as downed flight information display boards, indicating that certain services were affected.

SpiceJet, a low-cost carrier, and Akasa had to resort to manual mode due to problems in their online check-in and boarding operations across their networks. Budget airline Akasa announced: "Some of our online services, including booking, check-in, and manage booking services, will be temporarily unavailable due to infrastructure issues with our service provider." At the moment, airport check-in and boarding procedures are done manually.

Airport managers and airlines have been instructed to be "compassionate and provide extra seating, water, and food for passengers affected by delays," according to Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu.

"We are aware of your worries and are making every effort to make sure you travel quickly and safely. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and patience," he stated.
