Chhattisgarh: 29 Naxals killed in Bastar encounter; 3 cops injured
PTC News Desk: An encounter in Chhattisgarh's Kanker, in the Bastar region, resulted in the deaths of 29 Naxals and the injuries of three security personnel, officials said.
"On April 16, 2024, a joint search team comprising of Kanker DRG and BSF was launched for searching operations in the Chhottebetiya PS limit area in Kanker District," police said.
According to the statement, "After the encounter, the area was searched and 29 Naxal dead bodies, along with a huge cache of AK 47 rifles, INSAS/SLR/Carbine/.303 rifles and huge quantities of arms ammunition, were recovered from the spot. Three of the jawans were injured in the encounter and their condition is out of danger."
Earlier, Inspector General of Police (Bastar) P P Sundarraj said, "An encounter erupted between security forces and Naxals. So far, 18 Naxal bodies have been found at the encounter site in Chhotebethiya, Kanker. A huge quantity of weapons were recovered. Three jawans were injured. A search operation is currently underway."

Later, in a statement, the central police force stated that based on specific information, the BSF, in collaboration with the District Reserve Guard (DRG), launched a combined operation in the Binagunda region, which is under the jurisdiction of Kanker's Chotebetiya police station.
During the operation, the BSF team came under heavy gunfire from the insurgents. The BSF responded by returning fire, resulting in a fierce gun battle.
